History Summary Of Lessons 51-54
This week I learned about four inventions. they are ether, the fax machine, iron steam passenger ships, and the ice cream maker. Each of these inventions were invented in the 1850s. They have something in common with each other. That is that one two of them are made for enjoyment, and the others are for better quality.
Ether was a type of drug used to make the user fall asleep. It was improved on by Crawford Long in 1842. Long was born in Georgia in 1815. When he got older, he trained to be a doctor, and moved to a different place in Georgia. Long noted the effects of ether on other people, and in 1842, he used it as an anesthetic. It signaled a pain free surgery, but had side effects, like getting sick after having it.
The fax machine was a machine that scans and reproduces documents. It was invented by Alexander Bain in 1843. Bain was born in 1811, and is apprenticed to a clock maker. He moves to London. Then he learns of the electromagnetic field theory, to combine clock making and electricity, to invent the fax machine. Although it was largely replaced by the modern printer, without it we would not have been able to invent it.
Iron steam passenger ships are a type of gigantic vessel that is used to transport cargo to other continents, countries, states, and places. It was invented by Ismbard Brunel in 1843. Brunel was also the inventor of the propellor, and used it in his ship. He was born in 1806, and was taught by his father. He was apprenticed to a clock maker, and assisted his father, Mark, with the thames tunnel. Brunel he built bridges and the great western railroad, but wanted to add ships. He then invented the iron steam passenger ship. It is one of the biggest ships on earth, and can cary 100s of 1000s of tons of cargo on its hull.
The ice cream maker is what produces the famous ice cream. It was invented by Nacy Johnson in 1843. Making ice cream was a laborious task, and you had to scrape the sides, insides, and all of the left overs. Nacy then invented the hand cranked ice cream maker.
These inventions helped us have a better, more quality, and good day.
