History summary of lessons 61-64

This week I learned about four inventions. They were the jackhammer, the pin-tumbler-lock, the safety pin, and the gyroscope. These were all invented in the 1840s through the 1850s, and are used for either a job, or to keep something or someone safe.

The jackhammer is a high powered hammer drill that pulverizes hard surfaces by smashing them at over 20 times a second. It was invented by Johnathan Couch in 1848. Mining was important, but hazardous, and steam engines became integral. others started to create jackhammers, but john’s stood out as the best compared to their’s. this machine was a great idea for the construction district, and it really helped with the making of lots of buildings, especially ones made out of concrete.

The pin-tumbler-lock is a type of lock that was used to keep burglars from stealing from banks. it was invented by Linus Yale Sr. in 1843. Linus was born in Connecticut in 1797, and when he got to his 40s, he opened a lock shop, becoming the town lock smith. Although his story was short, he still made it so we can have the protection from burglars.

The safety pin is a needle that you can kinda just sheath, so it’s not so dangerous as it can be. It was invented by Walter Hunt in 1849. Walter was born in 1796 in New York. He then, when he got older, invented a version of the sewing machine in 1832. Before he could patent it he lost interest, but then he gained it again. Unfortunately, while lost his interest in it, another man stole the patent and got the credit. Then he decided to invent the safety pin to counter the man’s greed.

The gyroscope is tool that is spinning discs that are set in gimbals that provide stablity and can be used to maintain direction. It was invented in 1852 by Leon Foucualt. They were used more and more as the start of electricity and aircrafts. They are very popular in the consumer electronics used in satellites.

These inventions were great for people, and my favorite one has to be the gyroscope. They all were made a long time ago. say thanks to God for these inventors and inventions.
