  • What I Would Do If My Parents Left

    Literature 4 – Little Women Essay 4

This week in Little Women by Louisa May Alcott, I read about how Beth tried to run the house while her aunt left for the holidays. I am going to be discussing what I would do if  my parents left for the holidays.

The first thing I would do is to start taking cooking lessons. Every day I would be buying food and water. I would be cooking Jack, my little brother, his food and would make a rule: never wake Colt up at 3:00 in the morning.  I would be teaching Jack and myself, and I would quickly become a man.

I would act like Beth and be responsible. I would be smart, responsible, good, and careful with what I do and most of all, be nice to Jack. Beth might be over-thinking it, but she was successful  and came out on top. I think I would be okay and would take care of my little brother, Jack. I would be going around cooking or washing or taking care of Jack. Teaching Jack would be my most important job. Jack would help me do all these things I talked about here.

I would teach Jack how to cook. From then on, we would cook, make concoctions,  and have fun with it. All these things are going to happen at some point in time, so I thought I would plan before it did. Beth had a hard time with complete responsibility.

  • Important Inventions

    History 4 – Lessons 56 – 60 Essay

This week I learned about four inventions: the Trebuchet, Distilled Spirits, the Vertical Windmill, and the Stern-Mounted-Ruder.

The first invention is the Trebuchet. The Trebuchet is a bigger catapult and instead of originating from the crossbow it originated from the sling. Its impact was being able to break walls easily, and defend castle walls. They also could be fired at targets that couldn’t have enough reach to hit them with crossbows.

The second invention was Distilled Spirits. Distilled Spirits are a strong type of alcohol like rum that could make you feel good if you don’t drink it too much. It’s impact on history was  that it was used as a treatment for the plague “Black Death.”

The third invention is the Vertical Windmill. The Vertical windmill is a tall building with four sails. Its impact on history was that it produced electricity and made bread for the people who lived there.

The last invention was the Stern-Mounted-Ruder. It was a wooden paddle that attached to the under side of a boat and when you turn wheel it turns the rudder. Its impact on history was that you can steer the boat easily, which meant people could transfer goods to other continents, cities, countries, or even states! These inventions changed the world.

  • Important Inventions – Lessons 51-55

    History Essay – Lessons 51-55

This week I learned about four important inventions, the winepress, the chimney, the ribbed vault, and universities. We are going to talk about what they are and their impact on history.

The first invention we learned about this week was the university. The first universities were built in 1070 AD. They are buildings that people go to to learn. They produced important scholars that advanced human knowledge and educated.

The second invention was the winepress. It was a basket that had a hydraulic press on top that squished grapes to get the juice. It helped promote the discovery of wines that did not spoil us so quickly.

The next invention was the ribbed vault. It was first made in churches in 1100 AD. These vaults had ribbed patterns on the bottom of a church ceiling. It made it so people could make churches longer and bigger and also made it so windows could be installed farther up on the wall.

The last invention was the chimney. It was found in a man’s home in the 11th century and was manufactured by the 13th century. The chimney was a clay mold that went from the ceiling to the floor and produced heat. The chimney kept people warm and people did not die so easily from harsh weather.

These inventions were very helpful to human kind. The winepress made better wine. Universities produced important scholars that advanced human knowledge. The ribbed vault made churches bigger and better. Chimneys saved lives.

  • What Makes a Good Friend

    English – Lessons 51-55 – Paragraph

There are three things that make a good friend. Good friends never lie and they keep their word. Friends are polite to each other. When friends are not so polite forgiveness is key because nobody is perfect. These are the three rules that make a good friend.

  • Why Beth is Not a Good Character

In the book, Little Women by Louisa May Alcott, there are four main characters, Jo, Amy, Beth, and Margret. My least favorite character is Beth. She’s my least favorite because of her personality.

Beth is pushy and always gets what she wants. Also, she is a pianist and I am not. She only likes piano and does nothing in the book. Her sister, Jo, likes fantasy books and apples and is very polite. Her other sister is Margret who is the eldest and sweet. Her last sister is Amy and she accidentally brought a banned food to school, pickled limes. Beth did a lot of things I do not like such as asking for stuff like dresses or a new pair of gloves. She also is lazy and eats a lot. She has nothing in common with me, and is fairly easy to trick. She wants everything and is just really bratty. She even tricks her sisters.

Beth loves treats and candy and her favorite is pickled lime. She is always going to a party or a lesson or a store just to buy herself a toy, or a brand new dress to satisfy herself. She likes to play with her rude little friends or her dolls. I cannot relate to Beth as a character.

I do not think she is a good kid because she is rude, selfish and mean to other children. She is not good, respectful, and she does not listen to anybody. I do not think that Beth is a good character, and I think the author makes that point well even though she can be described as sweet sometimes.
